European industry playing a vital role in the fight against COVID-19
As the world grapples with the challenges of containing the COVID-19 outbreak and treating those already affected, some of the Europe’s best known multinationals have been actively engaged – donating medical resources and more, bringing together their R&D and manufacturing expertise to develop and scale up solutions.
Carl-Henric Svanberg, ERT Chair and Chairman of AB Volvo commented:
ERT has sought to keep track of the many diverse ways that European industry is helping, as summarised in this latest infographic:
"We are living an extraordinary moment right now – and one that underlines the incredibly valuable role that industry plays in the fabric of European society – for agility, employment and innovation. The cross-sectoral nature of ERT means that the companies involved are active in many different sectors, with a wide range of pressure points on their operations at this time. It is encouraging and inspiring to see the committed, collective effort being made by European industry and the creative and diverse ways that they are contributing to the fight against COVID-19.
We applaud the exceptional dedication and hard work of all those on the frontline of this crisis, including many teams at ERT Member companies. We will continue to track European industry's response and promote awareness of their various initiatives underway here and across the world. In scaling up international cooperation and identifying further synergies, industry is doing its part to help build better unity in the way governments can respond to COVID-19 – and in the approach to supporting jobs through measures to rebuild the prosperity of the various sectors affected by this crisis."
