In 1997, Morten Wierød earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Norway. Shortly after completing their education, he embarked on a professional journey with ABB.

Morten began his career at ABB in 1998 as an Area Sales Manager at ABB AS in Norway. Two years later, in 2000, he took on the role of Export Manager for ABB AS.

From 2003 to 2008, Morten served as the Local Business Unit Manager for Breakers & Switches at ABB Automation Products in Norway. In 2008, Morten transitioned to ABB (China) Ltd in the People’s Republic of China, where he assumed the roles of Local Business Unit Manager for Breakers & Switches and Global Product Group Manager for Fusegears and CDC in the Low Voltage Products Division. His tenure in China lasted until 2011.

From 2011 to 2015, Morten held the position of Managing Director for the Control Products Business Unit within ABB’s Low Voltage Products Division in Switzerland. This role was followed by a tenure as Managing Director of the Business Unit Drives in the Robotics and Motion Division, based in Zurich, Switzerland, from 2015 to 2019.

Continuing his ascent within ABB, Morten became President of the Motion Business Area in 2019, a position he held until 2022. During this time, he was also a member of the Group Executive Committee of ABB Ltd, Switzerland.

From April 2022 to 2024, Morten served as President of ABB’s Electrification Business Area, further demonstrating his leadership in shaping the company’s strategic direction.

In August 2024, Morten Wierød was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of ABB Ltd.
