Brussels, 24 May 2024: It is with much sadness that ERT has learned of the passing of its former Secretary General, Wim Philippa.

A committed European and polyglot, Wim’s tenure from 1998 to 2011 spanned a range of landmark events in the EU, such as the arrival of the euro, the 2004 and 2007 enlargements and later, the economic and financial crises. Working closely with the Chairs of his tenure – Helmut Maucher, Morris Tabaksblat, Gerhard Cromme, Jorma Ollila and Leif Johansson – he expanded ERT’s visibility and impact.

In bringing additional structure and capacity to ERT, his direction helped secure its future, both in terms of the engagement of its Membership and in the continuity in its day-to-day operations.

ERT, its secretariat and 60-strong Membership as well as previous ERT Members extend their deepest sympathies to Wim’s family and friends.
