ERT publishes its position on EU-China economic relations
The European Round Table for Industry (ERT) has just published its latest position paper on EU-China relations, emphasising the need for a balanced and strategic approach to this significant relationship. As tensions rise with recent EU and Chinese trade measures, ERT is calling for the EU to foster a strong, coherent strategy that promotes fair competition and avoids escalating conflicts. European businesses have thrived in China, and mutual economic benefits must be preserved through constructive dialogue and collaboration.
ERT stresses the importance of market liberalisation in China to boost business confidence and attract foreign investments. While safeguarding open trade, the EU should use targeted measures to address market distortions, ensuring a level playing field. The EU must also strengthen its internal competitiveness, particularly in strategic sectors, to engage with China on equal terms. In-depth negotiations, rather than trade restrictions, are crucial for maintaining a healthy and sustainable EU-China economic relationship.
